Our primary objective was to design a chain saw that is safer for the novice user, but also provides improved ease of use and is better adapted to the specific needs of the homeowner. For the safety concern, the chain is enclosed by a jawguard, which prevents unintended contact with the chain by the user. For improved ease of use, we introduced a proprietary, patented chain tensioning system, which prevents over-tightening of the chain, a common novice mistake, and a self-lubricating chain oiler, which many beginners tend to overlook. Finally, our re-design uses a plunge mechanism to actuate the pivoting blade, making the new design intuitive for even a first-time chain saw user.
