The Mall Mixed-use
The Mall will be located on a desert-like area on one of the main axis of the city, which connects the city center to the airport. The building program was basically including a shopping mall and a convention center. Considering the context, and the climatic inputs of the area; The design idea is based on dissolving the building program to create a cultural and commercial district out of it, which will influence its surrounding. The designed complex includes an open shopping area, a convention center, supporting commercial units like a bank, a supermarket, a restaurant, coffee shops, a kid center, a pray area, open recreational spaces and a high-rise building of office-residential units. Derived by the main design idea and the local climatic inputs of the area; The plan organization is based on the composition of different functions (shopping, culture, recreation, accommodation) , their open spaces-courtyards and the varying relations in between them. As the climatic values are available, all the circulation and the meeting areas are designed to be open spaces. The urban spaces integrated to the complex will house many activities and enrich the cultural interaction in the area. Instead of acting like a detached closed building, the designed settlement will support the street life in the whole area. Moreover; the layout design of the complex, the orientation of the buildings, and the facade organizations are also structured and detailed to generate and support the most effective use of the natural sources like sun-light, wind and rain. The buildings are positioned parallel to west to shadow the open spaces. The parallel positioning of the commercial blocks provides a wind corridor and supports continuous natural ventilation and passive cooling. The shadow of the hotel block covers the recreational open area and pool at midday. Sunlight control is also supported with the partial shadings. The second facade covering the west front of the shopping block provides a buffer zone to prevent the heating of the facade. The air also circulates through the air vents provided by two sided coffee shops at the ground floor. The green roof is also used to block the sunlight.
