Inawashiro Asai Gallery [Asai Warehouse in Inawashiro Renovation Project]
This warehouse, which was completed in 1889 as a brewery warehouse, was damaged by the eruption of Mount Bandai when its framework was completed, and was damaged again by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Completed as a symbol of reconstruction after the eruption of Mount Bandai, the warehouse was again saved and restored as a symbol of reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The half-destroyed warehouse was reset among new groundwork using a traditional whole-move method, and was designed to preserve the framework with some information and the memory of the house handing down from those days to the present time, during the construction. Influenced by the brick power-generation facility designed by Kingo Tatsuno which was built in this region, the outer walls of the warehouse were at first planned to be made of brick, but the eruption prevented it. In this renovation, brick tiles are used for the outer walls to fulfill the original wishes of the day. The building is now used as a gallery, a meeting room and an event venue, and is planned to be connected with the town park which is under development.
