community center [Himi Fishery Network Gallery TOTOZA]
Totoza is a refurbishment of a local fish market and the first public project in Japan to have been conceived solely of donated objects. Although it may not be the most sophisticated building, the market was built by Himi City to meet people`s then needs. Thus the building has been kept, rid of unnecessary interior decoration and painted entirely black. Inside is an exhibition of fishery and local culture. All objects within the building were collected by Tokyo City University students pulling trolleys from door-to-door, aiming to utilize as much as possible, leaving nothing to waste.
