BRT means Bus Rapid Transit. Dedicated busways have enabled BRT to offer higher-speed and higher-frequency services compared with a fixed-route bus. Kesennuma and Ofunato BRT realized early service start by combination of dedicated and general busways, where railway tracks were damaged by the tsunami of the East Japan Great Earthquake. It has been sustainable transportation which contributes to revival of affected areas, ensuring rapidity and punctuality by utilizing extra railway tracks, enhancing service frequency and setting routes based on the stages of community planning.
