In 2016, Korean citizens came together to share a memory that will go down in history. They impeached a president entangled in corruption through a peaceful candlelight protest, proving that the acts of the people can shape democracy. Seoul Square became the symbol of these candlelight protests, but soon citizens went back to their lives and gave up the opportunity to build upon the experience and energy. Democracy Seoul is a digital democracy platform where citizens are encouraged to take part in making suggestions, decisions and actions, and was designed to continue the momentum of citizens to create institutions and policies that directly impact their lives.
