The Hirano bus terminal building and plaza is a key project for the redevelopment of Yamanaka village. A double axis triangular wooden grid system create a new relationship with the impressive scenery: one is a vista between Mt. Fuji and the Symbol tree, another is a walkway between the north-south plaza. The grid works as a renovation platform to reconsider walls, ceiling, counters, terrace, signs, and lighting according to their functionality and requirements for the future. The platform also creates an inviting system with different thermal areas such as terraces and canopies. The functional area changes the border between interior and exterior according to the season, climate and activity profile.
