The Shita-machi Brewery HIKOBE is the new regional hub of the Gojyome Sake Brewery, Akita prefecture, established in 1688. After demolishing unnecessary elements, we designed a micro expansion with large doors and triangular canopies to rearrange the structural stability and thermal condition and add new functionality. We then converted backyard parking to main event spaces by creating new regional pathways through the main car street: from the interior spaces to the sake brewery to the market street. Interior space is composed with existing elements and materials to create future histories and new communications between townspeople and visitors by integrating new and old elements.
