In Taipei, Taiwan, residential buildings over 30 years tend to suffer from functional problems such as leaking, mildew, old pipes, fragmentary interior compartment, poor lighting and ventilation. The architects decided to give this apartment a thorough makeover, taking advantage of its great advantage: the stunning views across the city, including a direct view of Taiwan's (and for nearly a decade the world's) tallest building: Taipei 101. Thus, they fully opened one side of the apartment, and created a wooden observation deck. It no longer feels like an old apartment.
