Enroute is a new vascular surgery device designed to reduce the risk of stroke during carotid artery stenting. Conventional surgery (peripheral artery angioplasty or open carotid surgery) can dislodge plaque and cause an embolism. Enroute is completely different. A small incision is made in the neck for introduction of a catheter then the carotid is tied off below the incision, which causes reverse flow of blood. Blood and plaque flow out of the body through Enroute and back into the femoral artery in the groin. Enroute captures all plaque in its filter. It protects the brain during the entire procedure, preventing strokes and saving lives.
