This mobile phone case is made of natural mother of pearl, traditionally used as a symbolic material in Korean crafts due to its unique color and long-lasting sense of sophistication. Previously, the only way of applying mother of pearl to a product was through a manual process. To attach mother of pearl to the exterior of a cutting-edge electronic product, we developed in-mold technology: mother of pearl is processed to appear as if it has been through the damascene process, then applied to printed film and inserted into a mold, which is followed by injection molding. This technology has made mass production possible.
