Design challenge: The John Deere 850J Crawler replaced an aging crawler. There was a new aesthetic language that the smaller machines had introduced to the market, which was very well received. This being a design from the ground up, standardization was a major factor as well as the latest electronic, hydraulic, and software technology.
Design solution: The main innovation of the 850J is the overall intuitiveness of being able to immediately operate, service, and repair it with ease and confidence. The design solution is simple, honest, and functional. Whether it be operating the controls or checking the daily maintenance.
