KIRU means "cut" in Japanese and is a modular, light-weight, easy-fit box assembly system cut out of six-millimetre thin multiplex or Alucobond® boards. The three basic elements for each box – frame, floor, side – can be assembled like cards to create a filigreed yet highly stable corpus. The KIRU system permits the addition of any number of boxes – standing on height-adjustable, inserted aluminium feet – in the vertical or horizontal direction. It doesn't need a back wall or structural reinforcement and can be assembled as a free-standing unit, for example as a partition. The hollow spaces can be used as cable ducts. Moreover, the KIRU system can be expanded with add-on modular drawers, rear walls and lighting elements. Laid flat and packed individually, KIRU boxes are easily transported.
