Once complete, this street furniture system will include 3,300 bus shelters, 330 news stands, information kiosks, litter bins and news racks throughout New York City. The system incorporates a back-lit side panel with the street name on the outside and information on the inner side, keeping the signage simple and uncluttered. The modular furniture is assembled from a kit of parts which streamlines the manufacturing process and allows easy replacement and reconfiguration to accommodate new information systems or other modifications. The component-based approach gives the furniture a family identity and creates a common language across the transit system.
