The discreet light ring indicates the signal strength so that the user can easily determine the optimal orientation: the better the signal, the more light becomes visible. During operation of the antenna, the automatic gain control balances out variations in signal strength so that the television picture is always at its optimum. To prevent interference in reception, the antenna is shielded against mobile radio signals.
