Whenever we touch something, thousands of sense cells and tactile corpuscles are involved in the experience. It is the interplay of all these impressions that allow us to interact with our environment. The guiding idea behind the creation of the “TICTACTILE. System” was to define an interaction mechanism that feels as natural as possible and which allows the navigation of the user interface of a TV screen from a distance of three to five metres away with the same emotional appeal familiar from the interaction with other smart devices. The result is a system with a form and functionality that offers users a new tactile experience. Unified by an elegant design idiom of high quality, the IPTV set-top box and remote control both feature rounded edges and soft lines. The remote control rests well balanced in the hand of users and operating it evokes a sense luxury. Interacting with the TV screen is turned into a smooth experience and delivers a strong feel of sensuously pleasing immediacy. The approach of bringing the structure of the user interface to the navigation field of the remote control makes interacting with the TV appeal to both the visual and tactile senses. In doing so, the system supports the maxim of the “synchronization of mind and sense”. Based on a holistic design approach, the system thus manages in a fascinating manner to close the physical distance between the user and the TV graphical user interface.
