Bitter Bamboo Room
Round the globe, the world of work is changing and is subject to ever new demands and scenarios. As designer Yu Feng said of the basic concept for the Bitter Bamboo Room: “From the beginning, I wanted to design a place which does not look like anywhere else, trying to avoid the characteristics of space as much as possible.” It was intended as a place devoid of the typical features of a workplace in order to create an environment that allows one to focus on the essentials. The guiding principles for this interior focused on providing a humane and emotional experience. The aim was to make the space as simple and natural as possible, and original enough to speak for itself. This was achieved through the use of clear lines and reduced fittings, which nonetheless fulfil all the needs of the person working in it. To replicate the concept of originality visually, only natural materials were used. A low-cost, simple type of bamboo was chosen as the main material for the construction, as it is at its most expressive in this form. In line with the maxim of simplicity, only basic craftsmanship skills were used to produce the architectural structure of the Bitter Bamboo Room. The overall impression is one of authenticity and its naturalness is captivating. Bitter Bamboo Room’s stringent interior design offers a seminal new alternative to the conventional workspace.
