Praise of Bamboo is a tea tray of modern design. It is required for the traditional Chinese tea ceremony, whereby water is repeatedly poured over the tray. In the case of this innovative tray, triangular bamboo strips act as a sieve as well as an indicator for the water flow. In case the input flow is faster than the output flow, some strips rise vertically to indicate danger of overflowing. The arrangement of the bamboo strips is inspired by the way in which Tibetans stack wood. The pouring device consists of a channel and a cotton thread – during the noiseless pouring, the water forms a vitreous column here.
