Backpack Bed
People worldwide can become victims of natural disasters and lose their homes, forced to live outdoors for a period of time. The Backpack Bed was designed particularly with these people in mind, offering them a protective shelter that is easy to set up and thus quickly available. With its highly consistent design and sophisticated functionality this portable bed is also highly suited for camping. The concept of this functional as well as formally well-thought-out portable bed centres on a light 2.48 kg backpack that can be carried comfortably on the back and converts quickly and easily into a protective shelter. The backpack is made of a waterproof, windproof and fire-retardant fabric, characteristics that ensure both protection and durability even over longer periods of use. Converting this backpack into a 190-centimetre bed is almost self- explanatory and easily performed. The backpack is easily turned into a protective shelter by simply pulling up the two ends and pitching them – without the need for poles – via the built-in ropes, for example between two trees. The design details of the Backpack Bed were adapted for life under extreme conditions: it is well insulated, features three strong mosquito mesh vents for ventilation, a pocket to store valuables and a well-cushioned mattress promising a comfortable sleep.
