Carboset10 is a high-quality wood panel facade that was manufactured using a new development of the traditional Japanese wood finishing method called Yakisugi which works with fire. The first step is to carry out a controlled burn of the upper layer of a Douglas fir; the next consists of brushing off the layer of ash. While the carbonised material remains on the hard growth rings of the wood, the softer areas exhibit indentations of a markedly lighter colour. The resulting relief gives facades a distinctive appearance. By applying a wood glaze, the durability is additionally enhanced.
