The Biograph mMR is a remarkable innovation in medical imaging: it is the first fully integrated whole-body system, combining magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography. With this combination, the time needed for a patient to be examined may be reduced by nearly half as compared to using two separate systems. Furthermore, accuracy of results may be considerably higher due to the simultaneous imaging technology. Despite the fact that two large machines have become a single system, the device looks like a conventional magnetic resonance scanner. The reduced design of the shell, the floating patient table and the white colouring lend the system a comparatively small and light appearance. Soft, rounded lines convey a confidence-inspiring impression that may reduce patient anxiety prior to the examination.
