office building [The office building of Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten]
The new company building of Nara City’s Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten, a long-established Nara bleached cloth store that has a history of about 300 years. It has developed with the concept of "a future Machiya (town house)" where people work as if they are living in it. Mr. Manabu Mizuno, representative of Good Design Company, was the art director. The design was done by the architect Yasutaka Yoshimura. The building has the functions of an office, a warehouse and a showroom. It is a one-story building, colorful and color-coded by function, and from the outside looks like six side-by-side homes, so it blends into the neighboring residential area without standing out. The inside is connected by wide openings, but there is a difference in levels between adjacent parts. The office area utilizes the level difference to take in more light, making the space brighter. It is an exceptional space that has both the bustle of the town and the calmness of a residence.
