Hypodermic needle for insulin injection [NANOPASS33]
This is an insulin syringe for use by patients with diabetes. It boasts the world's smallest needle size (33G; 0.2mm). It is 20% thinner than conventional 31G needles. This innovative technology satisfies competing needs for a smaller, painless needle on the one hand, and a certain amount of thickness to allow for smooth delivery of the medicine on the other. This is the world's first syringe with "Double taper construction", featuring a very fine tip that gradually tapers into a wider diameter. Conventional syringes are shaped like pipes in which both the inside and the outside diameters are fixed. As the diameter of these needles is reduced, the resistance to the liquid being injected increases, making injections more difficult at small diameters. In order to overcome this limitation and achieve even smaller needle sizes, the "Hans Poisille Principle" was applied, and it was discovered that if a tapered configuration was used, the resistance could be controlled even at very fine tip diameters.
