Made in Fukushima
25,000 hectares of farmland were contaminated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Environmental specialists from METER Group developed a sustainable decontamination method that allowed local farmers to safely grow rice again on this land. However, consumers were not convinced, and sales of the rice were poor. Made in Fukushima is a book made from rice straw from the formerly decontaminated fields near Fukushima. It helps people understand that the rice is safe, by turning it into a medium through which the decontamination method is explained in detail, using photography, interviews, reports, background information, and visualized scientific data.
