Lysol / Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash
Responding to trends in home hygiene, Reckitt Benckiser identified an opportunity to extend its Dettol and Lysol (US) brands into the personal care category with a no-touch handwash dispenser. It needed to be freestanding, battery powered and easy to use.
Kinneir Dufort created No Touch – a compact, battery-powered device activated by the user’s hand breaking an infra-red beam. The solution met all of the pre-defined success criteria including minimised cost of refill goods, maximised battery life and a high-quality, high-speed dispense. It did so using low-cost technology that delivered production costs which met the business model.
Since launching in 2010, No Touch has grown to global sales of 8.8 million devices and 16.1 million refills in 2011. It delivered 2.5 times the growth of the rest of the global
handwash market combined and successfully launched in 30 countries. Consequently, Dettol’s handwash market share doubled, and Lysol has extended its positioning. The technology has also provided a platform for other Reckitt Benckiser products.
