The patented Bythlon pedal system features the performance of clipless pedals, but without the risk of the shoe and the plate on the pedal (known as the cleat) clicking firmly together and then failing to release immediately in an unforeseen situation. The interlocking connection fixes the shoe to the pedals, but allows the cyclist to simply lift their foot off the pedal at any time. The system additionally allows the use of any commercially available racing bike shoes, or even normal shoes.
