This wristwatch is fixing the environmental crisis with its circular economy & recycled materials
We have 7 years to fix the way we treat this planet before there’s no turning back. As stark as that fact may be, some optimists look at that deadline as the ultimate design brief. Meet the JOAGO watch series, created by two designpreneurs who are fiercely passionate about the environment. The JOAGO series of watches considers the planet as its biggest source of inspiration and end-beneficiary… JOAGO’s three watch models factor in a wide variety of design decisions that aim at leaving the planet in a better position than before, with a circular economic approach resulting in sustainable choices, recycled materials, energy-efficient designs, and even the eventual establishment of a Non-Profit Organization in Senegal to help coral farmers rebuild marine ecosystems.
Designed in three styles that celebrate the sun, the moon, and the earth in uniquely appealing ways, all of JOAGO’s watches have the same driving force behind them… to minimize waste, increase awareness, and to champion sustainable practices and energies. Each watch is made with a recycled steel body, and features quick-release straps featuring materials like recycled ocean plastic, recycled pineapple, vegan velvet, and recycled stainless steel. The profits from sales will also go towards removing a kilogram of ocean waste for every watch bought, and limited drops on watches will help JOAGO ensure that a minimal-waste circular economy is created around its products… but that’s enough about JOAGO’s ethos. Let’s dive into their designs!
The watch series comes in limited editions spread across three styles that combine aesthetics with efficiency. The SOLEOS range (Greek for Sun and A New Beginning) comes with a dial featuring Luminova-coated hands, and a hidden Japanese solar-panel underneath that powers the watch using renewable light-energy, giving you 6 months of operation on just 3 hours of charging. The EOS (A New Beginning), however, pays tribute to the moon, with a deep blue/black dial, and an eye-catching moon-phase tracker at its 6 o’clock. The TERRA series champions simplicity with its minimalist watch face, paying tribute to nature’s simple pleasures. All three watch-styles come with a powerful and energy-efficient Japanese Miyota Movement on the inside, surrounded by the recycled-steel case and capped off with a stellar sapphire-glass cover. The watches are designed to be water-resistant too, ranging from 3ATM to 10ATM depending on the variant.
JOAGO’s watches sport a variety of color options, supported by an even diverse catalog of straps. The quick-release closure allows you to swap straps in seconds, choosing between straps made from unusual materials that balance aesthetics with comfort, performance, and an eco-friendly approach (my eyes are on the vegan leather straps made from upcycled pineapple husk!) The watches are a part of a limited edition run, which helps them have a minimal carbon impact while also allowing them to keep prices down by reducing inventory and retail costs. Each watch also helps drastically reduce ocean-waste and contributes to the rehabilitation of marine ecosystems. Environmental activism never looked so good!
Limited run leaving behind happy customers, and also a happy planet!

SOLEOS – Deriving from the Greek word Sol meaning sun and Eos meaning ‘a new beginning.’ The SOLEOS model is the most sustainable watch on the market, featuring Japanese solar technology, recycled stainless steel watch case and glow-in-the-dark dials.
Three hours wear on your wrist = up to six months of power reserve, without any light.
Hands and hour markers have been coated with Biolight, a luminescent paint that increases visibility when the light comes down while giving a beautiful look in the dark, exactly like bioluminescent phytoplankton.
EOS – Which means “a new beginning”, pays tribute to the moon, with a deep blue/black dial, and an eye-catching moon-phase tracker at its 6 o’clock.
TERRA – Designed for the simplicity of our planet. This design removes complexity to arrive at simplicity as if it was crafted by evolution itself.
