The advancement of 5G technology is being promoted worldwide as it enables comprehensive digitalisation. The 5G radio unit AIR 3239 has emerged with a new, highly distinctive design for such a device. Its aesthetically clean housing integrates a 5G Massive MIMO antenna with 32 transceivers. Thanks to the densely packed radio performance and sophisticated technology, the device comes in an innovatively compact size. This makes it easier to transport and thus helps realise the idea of “Building 5G with Precision”. With an optimised layout on the inside of the device, this base station is able to provide improved network coverage and capacity in dense urban and suburban areas. One advantage in use is that it reduces the power-related operating costs by around 45 per cent. In addition, this also reduces the time to market, as smaller AAS units (Advanced Antenna System) can be added easily on site. In order to enable discreet visual integration in urban environments, the devices in the Ericsson 5G AIR portfolio are designed with a single curved shape. This particular shape also allows for easy customisation by adding camouflage foil, while the heat sink with its characteristic, thermally optimised design expresses the performance of the advanced technology housed inside.
